Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Romantic comedy queen Meg Ryan resorts to cute again in this mediocre offering that attempts to freshen the usual formula by throwing a dippy time-travelling plot into the mix. It's a rather disastrous combination. Hugh Jackman plays Leopold, Duke of Albany, an Englishman abroad in 19th-century New York, who falls through a time portal to the present-day where he meets the overly quirky Ryan and woos her in the old-fashioned way. But what's a gal to do when her man has to go back to his life in the past to ensure that his descendants have a future? With this genre, the staple story of boy meets girl is often complicated but rarely is it so implausible.
