Our Score
Joan Crawford has a splendid opportunity to suffer agonies in this contrived but lively thriller in which - like Barbara Stanwyck in Sorry, Wrong Number - she accidentally discovers her husband is plotting to kill her. The woman's whirlwind passion for someone as sinister as Jack Palance strains credulity although her career as a playwright serves to explain why she devises her own scheme to trap Palance and his grasping girlfriend, Gloria Grahame, rather than calling in the police. Dramatically photographed by Charles Lang Jr and forcefully acted under the direction of David Miller, the film is always a visual treat.

After an ambitious actor insinuates himself into the life of a wealthy middle-aged playwright and marries her, he plots with his mistress to murder her.
