Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg headline a smart and zesty thriller as undercover agents embedded in a Mexican narcotics syndicate, unaware of each other's true identity. That is until they're hung out to dry by their respective American bureaus and a botched bank raid puts a price on their heads. They're forced on the run and reluctantly join forces to take down a drugs kingpin (Edward James Olmos) and the shadowy organisation (headed by Bill Paxton) that pulls the strings in the background. Director Baltasar Kormakur, who worked with Wahlberg a year previously on Contraband, delivers a well-paced and action-packed adventure (based on the graphic novels by Steven Grant), confidently marshalling the myriad plot twists without ever losing sight of the storyline. Washington and Wahlberg are perfectly cast as the wisecracking leads, bouncing razor-sharp dialogue back and forth, with Olmos and Paxton offering solid support as the sinister and ruthless bad guys.
