Our Score
With an alluring surface gloss that suggests more than is there, and a plot so clumsy that it regularly trips over itself, it is astonishing that the quality cast (Uma Thurman, Kim Basinger and, to a lesser extent, Richard Gere) is able to salvage anything from the wreckage of this film. Thurman is psychiatrist Gere's patient and Basinger is Thurman's married sister, with whom Gere soon becomes involved. As the twists and turns in the story stretch credibility to breaking point, it's Basinger who brings character and determination to the heart of the film, at times making Gere look no more than a clothes horse.

A psychiatrist treats a woman who is repressing traumatic memories. He meets his patient's sister in the hope of learning more about their troubled childhood, but they end up having an affair. The shrink later learns his lover is married to a psychopathic gangster, and is drawn into a murderous plot. Thriller, starring Kim Basinger, Richard Gere, Uma Thurman and Eric Roberts.
