Singer Bernie Nolan dies aged 52

Star of pop group The Nolans passed away peacefully this morning

Bernie Nolan, one of the members of pop group The Nolans, has died at the age of 52.

Nolan was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. Although she underwent a mastectomy and was given the all-clear in 2012, the disease returned and spread around her body.

A spokesman for the family said: “Bernie passed away peacefully this morning with all of her family around her.

“They kindly ask people to respect their privacy at this difficult time,” he added.

Nolan’s husband Steve Doneathy had told BBC Breakfast in May of this year that she had stopped chemotherapy and had entered palliative care.

The star was best known for her role as lead singer of Irish girl group The Nolans, but has also starred in The Bill and Brookside.
