Terror in the Skies

Technical Meltdown

Series 1 - Episode 1 Technical Meltdown

Mon 4 Dec 8pm - 9pm National Geographic Channel

If you’re a nervous flyer or you’re going to board a plane tomorrow, you might want to give this a miss, or maybe record it to play later.

That way you won’t be scared by the camcorder footage of a passenger sending what he thinks is a final message to his loved ones because he and his screaming fellow travellers fear they are about to die. Or hear about the jet that lost power to both of its engines just a minute from landing at Heathrow.

Aeronautical engineer Brendan Walker guides us through these horrors as he makes it clear that anything can go wrong — even on some of the most sophisticated
new aircraft around.

Aeronautical engineer Brendan Walker presents shocking footage of aviation incidents and near misses, and tells stories of survival and bravery in the sky. He begins with an assessment of whether the increasingly complex technology in modern planes could be creating new problems, looking at two types of airliner that have experienced technical issues in recent years - the Boeing Dreamliner and the Airbus A380.
