Pitched somewhere between Ground Force and DIY SOS, this series sees Alan Titchmarsh and team transform a deserving person’s garden. The first project is both a challenge and a real tearjerker.
Forty-nine-year-old Malcolm was once a keen gardener and a fit and active dad but now he’s a wheelchair user because he has the horribly debilitating motor neurone disease. The family have moved to a specially adapted bungalow but the steeply sloping garden means Malcolm can’t access it, let alone get around it.
There’s a bit of larking about (it gets a bit saucy when David Domoney gets caught up in a safety harness) amid barrow-loads of tips about planting and, of course, it’s inspirational. It’ll be a hard-hearted gardener that doesn’t weep when Malcolm and his wife see what’s been done.
Alan Titchmarsh presents surprise garden makeovers for deserving people across the nation. The crew heads to Hurst Green, East Sussex, to create a suitable outdoor area for Malcolm Dean, who has motor neurone disease and has recently moved into a specially adapted bungalow with his family. The sloping garden makes it virtually impossible for him to get around outside in a wheelchair, so the team sets about transforming the challenging patch to suit Malcolm's needs.
