Series 9-Episode 6

Catch Up

When he lost three limbs after stepping on a land mine in Afghanistan, Royal Marine captain Jon’s life changed for ever. Home had been a crooked chocolate-box Devonshire cottage that was now totally unsuitable, so he needed a place where he could live independently.

Jon and his partner Becky opted to build somewhere themselves that would be practical and yet have no noticeable adaptations for Jon’s disabilities. It’s a heck of a challenge.

Meanwhile, on BBC2’s The House That £100K Built, twice-widowed Sumati Bala attempts to build a new home in Northumberland on a minuscule budget after she was forced to demolish what she’d thought was a “perfect” retirement home.

Kevin McCloud meets dairy farmer Andrew Ainslie and his artist wife Meryl in Marlborough, Wiltshire. Their current house is separate from their land, so they want to build a new home close to their 200-head herd of cattle. The project involves constructing an ultra-modern barn-like building from engineered timber, with a barrel-shaped zinc roof, which will combine functionality with high-finish craftsmanship.
