Professor Andrew Wallace-Hadrill of the University of Cambridge examines the story of Herculaneum, which was destroyed by the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79AD. He meets the scientists leading a forensic investigation into the human skeletal remains found there and then goes on a tour of the Roman town to provide an insight into the lives of its inhabitants, exploring the houses, wooden furniture and food that were preserved by a deep layer of ash.
