When Michel Roux Jr strolls around the MasterChef kitchen observing the professional chefs at work, who knew that he checks out which knife they’re using and even what shoes they’re wearing? Along with insights like this are reminders of previous series, including the chef who served peaches with lentils to a revolted Gregg Wallace and the skills test that prompted Monica Galetti to say, ”I hate watching you work. It’s dirty, it’s disgusting.”
But there’s dish after dish of glorious-looking food, though Michel admits he’s bored with all the “smears, schmears, wipes, and splodges” that decorate every plate.
A look behind the scenes of the culinary challenge that invites experienced chefs to demonstrate they have the skill and ambition to reach Michelin-star standard. Judges Michel Roux Jr, Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace share memories of the best and worst dishes they have been presented with during the programme's five series, as well as revealing the best ways to make a good impression on the show.
