Time for one of those epic
road trips: it’s a race through the deserts of America to Mexico in three front-engined supercars. There’ll be pranks and jibes, jaw-dropping camerawork and sweeping landscapes — and a man in a white coat will step forward with challenges for the presenters and their expensive cars.
But most of all there will be long, blokeish arguments about whose car is best: Hammond’s Dodge Viper, May’s Aston Martin Vanquish or Clarkson’s Lexus LFA (Hang on – a Lexus? Yup, late replacement for a Ferrari F12, apparently). Meanwhile, back in the studio the star guest is a very unexpected Mick Fleetwood.
The trio of motoring enthusiasts embark on another epic road trip, this time across western America in front-engined supercars. Jeremy Clarkson pilots the Lexus LFA, which has a spectacularly high-revving V10 powerplant, Richard Hammond gets behind the wheel of the muscular Dodge Viper, and James May opts for the latest incarnation of Aston Martin's Vanquish. On their journey from Las Vegas to Palm Springs via Los Angeles, the presenters tackle racing circuits and find themselves in a race against the police, before rushing to the Mexican border - and there's a terrifying penalty for the last man to arrive. Meanwhile, Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood rolls up his sleeves to thrash the Reasonably Priced Car.
