This charming film is perfect family viewing, although some early scenes might be too sad for very young children. And some adults might cry along with kangaroo “mum” Chris Barns (nicknamed Brolga) when one of his orphaned joeys is badly injured.
But there are many joys, as Brolga lavishes love on spindly kangaroo orphans Amy and William, tucking them in at night and even snuggling them into a shopping trolley on a trip to the supermarket. There is comedy, too, from 6ft, 180lb alpha male Roger, a burly love-machine, and an enchanting sequence as a ’roo gives birth to a baby the size of a jellybean. It will take your breath away.
Part two of two. Brolga continues to raise the three joeys he rescued in his one-room tin shack in the Outback. He is hoping to return the kangaroos to the wild, but one of them is seriously ill and there are other dangers to deal with in the harsh Australian desert. Narrated by Juliet Stevenson.
