Review

“There are some four million different kinds of animals and plants in the world – four million different solutions to the problem of staying alive.” That’s how David Attenborough, standing in the midst of the rainforest, introduced the first of his ground-breaking series in 1979. Since then that estimate for how many species there are has more than doubled, but Attenborough’s exquisitely crafted account of relationships within the natural world has stood the test of time.

Calling a factual programme a “landmark series” has become a default option, like describing famous things as iconic, but if any series deserves the label it’s this one.

Summary

Renowned naturalist and broadcaster David Attenborough travels the world studying the development of life from the earliest cells to present-day flora and fauna.
