The Richard Dimbleby Lecture 2013

This year’s lecture comes from the world’s most prolific philanthropist, Bill Gates. Having changed the world through computer software Gates turned to a new global challenge. His mission via the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is to eradicate killer diseases around the world: recently he spent over $1 billion on the drive to eliminate polio. That is the theme of his talk tonight. After the killing of health workers administering the vaccine in Pakistan, it may be a rallying cry.

Microsoft chairman Bill Gates, now one of the world's leading philanthropists, delivers the 37th annual lecture in memory of broadcaster Richard Dimbleby. The entrepreneur explains his optimism for a world free of polio, why he is devoting so much of his time, money and influence to eradicating the debilitating disease, and how others can help him achieve his goal. Introduced by Jonathan Dimbleby.
