Henham's Lost Mansions

Series 20 - Episode 4 Henham's Lost Mansions

For once the butler really did do it. According to legend, in 1773 a drunken butler dropped a candle in Henham Hall’s wine cellar, razing to the ground the Suffolk mansion that had been home to the Rous family since the 1500s.

The charismatic current owner, Hektor Rous, is rebuilding his family estate by putting on major events such as the Latitude festival, but he’s also keen to learn more about his illustrious past. However, with no sign of the original Tudor house and almost nothing of the Georgian mansion that replaced it, it’s quite a challenge for Tony Robinson and co. Could the answers lie in the legendary cellar?

Tony Robinson and a team of specialist historians help Hektor Rous, the son of `Aussie Earl' Keith Rous, piece together the mysterious history of the family's Tudor country home in Suffolk. In 2004, he moved from Melbourne, Australia, hoping to rebuild the estate's fortunes, and established events such as the Latitude Festival in its 3,500-acre grounds.
