The pioneering work of producer Joe Meek is celebrated by Tom Robinson. The futuristic space sounds he used were pioneering in the 1960s and his hit
with the Tornadoes was the first song by a British group to top the singles chart in the United States.
Tragic, then, that his talents were accompanied by the mental health problems that led to his suicide.
Tom Robinson profiles the eccentric pioneering record producer responsible for introducing electronically distorted sounds into the textures of modern pop. First broadcast in 2007.
