Later Live - with Jools Holland

Series 41 - Episode 9

All the way from Perth, Australia: Tame Impala, a wondrous “psychedelic hypno-groove melodic rock” band, in their words. On occasion there’s the spacey stomp of glam, too, but the question is, can they play their new album live? It’s heavy on shimmering effects and was mostly created alone by band leader Kevin Parker, at home. Also in Jools’s cirque du son: Biffy Clyro, Sinéad O’Connor, Courtney Pine, Scottish folk trio Lau — and Larry “Mud” Morganfield, who borrowed his nickname from his dad, Muddy Waters.

Irish singer Sinead O'Connor performs songs from How About I Be Me (And You Be You)?, and Kilmarnock rockers Biffy Clyro debut tracks from their forthcoming release Opposites. Australian psych band Tame Impala play numbers from their recent LP Lonerism, and Scottish chamber-folk trio Lau showcase tracks from Race the Loser. Muddy Waters' eldest son Mud Morganfield plays tunes from his Son of a Seventh Son debut and multi-instrumentalist Courtney Pine returns to the show to perform selections from House of Legends, which sees him celebrate his Caribbean roots with a variety of merengue, ska, mento and calypso numbers. An extended edition can be seen on Friday at 11.50pm.
