Ham, egg and chips; strawberries, meringue and cream: Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall reckons the best food combinations come in threes.
In this daily series he and two guest chefs – today Gill Meller and Florence Knight – compete to cook a simple but stunning dish from three ingredients, of which one element is compulsory. Today’s key ingredient is beetroot, which the chefs end up combining with egg and anchovy, blue cheese and poppy seeds, and walnut and yogurt.
Charlie Hicks (who co-presented Radio 4’s Veg Talk) is the judge who will taste all the dishes and decide which one is best.
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall provides an array of tips to make things easy in the kitchen, as he sets out to show viewers how to achieve maximum taste with minimum fuss. In the first episode, Hugh uses three ingredients to create a better dish than his rival chefs Gill Meller and Florence Knight, but it is judge Charlie Hicks who will have the final say.
