As America prepares to go to the polls for the presidential election, Andrew Marr assesses Barack Obama’s first (and perhaps last) term in office. That can’t be done without examining the huge expectations that were placed on him when he was sworn in as the first black US president in January 2009.
To find out if America got what it voted for, Marr meets White House staff and advisers (no, West Wing fans, Toby Ziegler isn’t one of them) to discuss the problems that beset the Oval Office from the start. Among them are economist Austan Goolsbee, who advised the president about the world’s devastating financial crisis until last year.
As America prepares to go to the polls on Tuesday,
looks back at President Barack Obama's term in office. Through informal and candid interviews with some of Obama's White House staff and those who have worked closely with him, Andrew Marr assesses how far the presidency has lived up to the huge expectations. Contributors include economics professor Austan Goolsbee, who advised the administration through the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, and Philip J Crowley, the former Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs.
