It all begins so happily for the Doctor, Amy and Rory, holidaying in New York’s Central Park, with the Time Lord reading aloud from a pulp-fiction novel he’s found in his pocket. Then Rory wanders off to fetch some coffees… and a nightmare begins. Soon their lives are entangled
once more with those dratted Weeping Angels — and with River Song,
looking like she’s just stepped out of The Singing Detective.
Steven Moffat’s scorching script and Nick Hurran’s lush, cinematic direction take
to a higher level — the location shoot in America
is worth every dollar. The Angels Take Manhattan is genuinely eerie, jumpy and will cause sniffles. For it charts the final days of the Ponds — and what a class act Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill have been these past three years. They’ll leave a gaping hole in the programme and in the hearts of their fans.
But no sooner has this series got going than it is put on hold. The Doctor returns with a new chum at Christmas, and this seventh series will resume with eight more episodes some time in the new year.
New York's statues come to life, and with Rory in grave danger, the Doctor and Amy face a race against time to locate him. Luckily, an old friend has come up with a novel way to guide them. Alex Kingston returns as River Song in Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill's final adventure. With guest star Mike McShane (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves).
