Whisper it, but this could be the best-ever Killing, better even than the sanctified first series. That was in many ways a slow burn, playing out over 20 episodes. This final Sarah Lund outing is an exhaustingly exciting ten-parter, powered by remorselessly sharp writing and direction.
Little Emilie is still missing, seized by a quixotic kidnapper who wants repayment of some mysterious “debt”. Her stricken parents will pay any ransom, anywhere, but it becomes clear that whatever lies at the heart of Emilie’s disappearance and imprisonment has nothing to do with money.
Soon we are reaching back into the past, to an old case that has left terrible unhappiness in its wake. As the prime minister’s re-election bid gathers pace, he becomes curiously obsessed by the hunt for Emilie, while Sarah Lund (Sofie Grabol) also has to face a seismic event in her personal life – one she is barely equipped to deal with.
Following the murder of public prosecutor Peter Schultz, it becomes clear that Emilie Zeuthen's kidnapper will stop at nothing to recover his debt. Meanwhile, the prime minister's team tries to limit his public involvement in the affair of the kidnapping, but it proves difficult when new information emerges. Danish drama, starring Sofie Grabol.
