The final leg of Ken Hom and Ching-He Huang’s foodie peregrination both takes them in different directions and brings them closer to their families — and to the Chinese food that most of us will recognise (no pig brains here).

Ken, whose roots lie near Hong Kong, gets the opportunity to re-establish ties with relatives he hasn’t seen for decades, while Ching heads across the Taiwan Strait to re-engage with what she learnt about food as a child.

First off, however, they’re in Guangzhou, where they sample dim sum, those little dumplings so popular with weekend lunchtime diners in any Chinatown you’re likely to visit.

Ching-He Huang and Ken Hom embark on the final leg of their journey across China. They begin in Guangzhou, where they explore the birth of Cantonese cuisine - the style of Chinese cookery with which western diners tend to be most familiar - and sample some of the city's famous dim sum dishes. They then take emotional journeys back to their ancestral homes, with Ken cooking for relatives he has not seen for more than 20 years, while Ching returns to Taiwan and recalls how her grandmother first inspired her love of food. Finally, the two chefs meet up again in Hong Kong, where they share a final meal and look back at their trip. Last in the series.
