On this enchanting odyssey into the red granite heart of the bleakly lovely Cairngorms – at their best and most glorious in the snow – we visit a painter, go on a grouse-flushing expedition, watch fearless types dig themselves a snow hole (the mountains are deadly cold and treacherous in winter), and stand up to the knees in the bubbling, champagne-fresh River Dee with redoubtable 91-year-old “Mrs C” on her annual fishing trip with her favourite ghillie.

A tour of Britain's largest national park, a land of extremes in the heart of the Highlands, where a diverse range of wildlife including golden eagles, ptarmigan, capercaillie, red deer and crested tits can be found. The programme explores the area through the eyes of people who live and work there, including a mountain guide, an artist, a gamekeeper and a nature writer. Narrated by Hermione Norris. Last in the series.
