Episode 4465

It’s not the first time EastEnders has been broadcast live, but the live sequence being inserted into this double bill of episodes is also highly topical. It shows Billy Mitchell proudly carrying the Olympic torch through Walford, which means a tense seven minutes for actor Perry Fenwick, who’s just hoping he doesn’t drop it.

Even if his fears are unfounded, there’s plenty of other drama. Lola goes into labour, but refuses to go to hospital in case they take her baby; Kat’s still playing away (and we’re not talking football); and Lucy is petrified when the bailiffs knock.

Billy's big day arrives as the Olympic torch begins to make its journey through Walford and he bores his family with endless tales of the relay route. But then Alfie persuades him to play football, which proves to be a huge mistake as the team gets delayed on the way home, leaving him in danger of missing his moment of glory. Back in the Square, Lola panics when her waters break and refuses to accept she is in labour, while Cora struggles to admit her feelings for Patrick. Continues at 9.00pm.
