Great Britain v Sweden

Great Britain v Sweden

London 2012 marks the first time that Team GB will compete in the men’s football since the 1960 games in Rome, and the first ever appearance for the women’s team at an Olympic event. It’s been a long wait, but today’s double bill of warm-ups will give us a good indication of our chances before the action proper gets under way in five days’ time.

Both teams face a tough test as they take on two of the gold-medal favourites at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium. The women play Sweden at 4pm, while Stuart Pearce’s men kick off at 7.45pm against a Brazilian team crammed full of samba stars like Neymar and Hulk.

Great Britain v Sweden (Kick-off 4.00pm). Gabby Logan presents coverage of the first of today's two friendly matches at the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough, beginning with this women's contest. England manager Hope Powell is in charge of Team GB for the Olympics, and despite having little time and only this one match to prepare the squad for the competition, will be familiar with the bulk of the group having selected 16 of the 18 players from England. With commentary by Guy Mowbray and Lucy Ward, analysis from Faye White and Sue Smith, and reports from Jacqui Oatley.
