Kookiness is rife in US crime drama, but programme-makers need to realise that a little kook goes a long way. Only two episodes in and
is overdoing it: Walter’s flip-down shades and toy-based crime-scene reconstructions are passable, but the Miami Vice homage soon gets stale.
This episode does pull off a neat trick though in getting psychologist Lance Sweets from Bones to pay a visit – having him evaluate Walter’s mental fitness allows us to get to know the detective a little better, which is no bad thing. Pity the same can’t be said of juvenile delinquent Willa, whose scenes still feel bolted on to the main plot and fail to serve much purpose.
A prison warden enlists Walter's help to find a bullet that could prove the innocence of a death-row inmate, who is due to be executed in a few days. FBI psychologist Lance Sweets evaluates the finder's competency to consult on federal cases. Drama, starring Geoff Stults.
