Review

The remaining seven bakers would probably disagree with the notion that “it’s as easy as pie”, because they’re baking pies of all sorts, sizes and shapes this week and it’s flipping difficult. Fillings spew out, pastry collapses or shrinks, sauces split and bottoms are pale and soggy (a constant problem on this show).

Consequently the judges are sparing with their compliments, while Mel’s dismissal announcement made my heart crack in two as surely as an overcooked pastry case. Foodies should note that Hairy Bikers’ Meals on Wheels, in which Si and Dave try to revive the home delivery service, follows at 9pm.

Summary

The remaining bakers test their pie-making skills as they embark on a series of challenges. After serving up their signature dish for judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, they are faced with cooking six individual pork pies - a task that proves problematic for vegetarian Jason - and preparing a meringue. Presented by Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.
