The Origins of Grime Music

Series 1 - Episode 3 The Origins of Grime Music

Lord Bragg has a great name for a rapper but doesn’t look comfortable acting as MC for this film toasting the success of Dizzee Rascal and Tinchy Stryder, who grew out of the UK grime music scene. But in tracing the explosion of the genre from a few kids making music on games consoles, the film has great archive footage and probing interviews.

Melvyn Bragg investigates grime music, exploring its development on east London's Bow Cross estate and discovering how MCs including Dizzee Rascal and Tinchy Stryder secured mainstream success. He also meets the founders of former pirate radio station Rinse FM and visits a recording session at the Eastside Youth Club.
