“We are on a mission to find a star and I genuinely believe that person, that act, is out there. We just want to find the best,” said Simon Cowell at the start of BGT. So in theory the ten acts that have been voted through to the final and who are waiting nervously in the wings of the Fountain Studios in Wembley should be mind-bogglingly brilliant.

For my money, though, the star of the whole series has been David Walliams. His exuberance and his uncontrollable antics (in particular his constant teasing of Cowell) have been a breath of fresh of air. He looked as though he was having the time of his life when he got up on stage to perform alongside the Showbears.

Summary

After seven rounds of auditions and five semi-finals, the national talent search comes to a close as the 10 finalists perform one more time. Their aim: to follow in the footsteps of previous winners Paul Potts, George Sampson, Diversity, Spelbound and Jai McDowall and win a slot at the Royal Variety Performance, as well as getting their hands on the £500,000 cash prize. All they have to do is impress the voting public, for while Simon Cowell and his fellow judges may be poised with their buzzers, their opinion at this point counts for nothing - who wins is all down to the viewers at home. Ant and Dec present. Last in the series.
