The Guest Wing

Series 1 - Episode 5

How far would the landed gentry go to hang on to their money-draining stately piles? Dress up as a furry vole? Sniff out the “pink pound”? These are the approaches considered tonight in this mildly amusing toffs-meet-plebs series.

Gorgeous Muncaster Castle in the western Lakes has been a family seat since 1208. The three generations alive today are used to playing open estate to the public and here they entertain some outward-bound office workers. Meanwhile, at Maunsel House in Somerset, a crusty baronet with old-fashioned views and a house run by a bevy of young women receive the Brighton and Hove Gay Men’s Chorus.

The Penningtons, owners of Muncaster Castle in the Lake District, discuss the challenges of housing three generations of their family under one roof, while elderly patriarch Patrick struggles to find new purpose following the death of his wife. At Maunsel House in Somerset, Sir Benjamin Slade's preconceptions are challenged when a gay men's choir arrives for a weekend break.
