There’s something inherently interesting in this series. However, it’s easy to see the frustrations that have divided audiences during its three-part run.
The final episode introduces us to Sam, a 27-year-old from Kent who has Down’s syndrome. It’s impossible not to have your heart warmed by Sam’s story and his charismatic conversations with the camera crew. But what undoes all this good work is the cloyingly twee score and condescending voiceover that accompany his every move. In the end it’s hard to shake the feeling that the show wants us to snigger at its subjects rather than empathise with them.
Sam, a 27-year-old actor with Down's syndrome, hopes to find a woman he can share his life with. Hadyn, a 24-year-old skater who has the facial condition Crouzon syndrome, receives support from twin brother Ashley and a dating agency as he tries to overcome a lack of confidence in approaching women. Meanwhile, 20-year-old singer Kali searches for a new boyfriend and discusses Williams syndrome, a genetic disorder that has hindered her development.
