Grayson Perry feels like an “aspirational hairdresser” when he kits himself out as a member of the upper classes in the final leg of his journey through the taste of the nation. Happily for the transvestite potter, this particular gentleman’s “uniform” contains lots of pink.
He cuts a colourful swathe through the Cotswolds, that verdant playground of the wealthy, famous and upper-class. He calls in at the magnificent Cirencester Park for a polo match where he gets tips on the appropriateness of dressing from the chatelaine, the Countess of Bathurst (“good quality, not too brash” and never roll your sleeves above the elbows).

As in the previous programmes, Perry, who is funny, wise and perceptive, is graciously accepted wherever he goes. In turn, he never judges and never makes fun.

Summary

The artist lives among the upper classes of the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire as he concludes his exploration of British tastes, trends and lifestyles. He talks to Marquess of Bath Alexander Thynn as he analyses the continuing hold that upper-class taste has on the British imagination and considers whether it is something the rest of us should aspire to. The people he meets are later invited to view the tapestries he has made about them. Last in the series.
