Review

Panic over. Any worries about the previous episode's damp squib are spectacularly swept away within minutes tonight, as Bill's ongoing - and previously, quite tedious - struggle to love Sookie despite no longer being human is brought into sharp relief. And for once, this game-changing development doesn't involve murder, spontaneous combustion or running at 300mph: it's just a speech.

As if released from silver shackles, the writers take full advantage, toying with our guilty wish to see Sookie run off with Eric and, back in Bon Temps, showing us exactly what sort of menace British vampire Franklin is. His glamouring of Tara reaches new levels of mind control, at one point resembling a very sinister take on Cyrano de Bergerac.

It also handily resolves the question of why Tara forgot she was in love with Jason halfway through the first series, but there’s so much good stuff going on here, you’ll barely notice.

Summary

Werewolf Alcide invites Sookie to go with him to a full-moon party. Meanwhile, Bill seemingly cements his allegiance to Russell Edgington by joining him for dinner, and Arlene's raging hormones cause her to snap at Jessica - an action she soon regrets. Supernatural drama, starring Anna Paquin.
