Susan Froemke celebrates conductor James Levine's 40th year at New York's Metropolitan Opera by looking back at his life and career. Her film features footage of Levine and his long-time collaborator Placido Domingo in rehearsals from the 1970s and their preparations for Simon Boccanegra in 2010. There are also clips from productions of Puccini's La boheme in 1977, Kurt Weill's Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny in 1979 and Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos in 1988.
