Review

As a portrait of the artist, this is hard to beat, told by the man himself and illustrated with wonderful archive. We see sketches on a beermat for the pickled shark, shots of his innocent early collage work and drawings for his infamous diamond skull. We also see how he kept gambling his wealth on bigger, crazier ideas — and kept hitting the jackpot. Earlier, in The First Look at 8pm, Hirst takes a stroll around his new retrospective at Tate Modern with comedian Noel Fielding.

Summary

The artist talks about his life and career, discussing his early years growing up in Leeds and move to London in the early 1980s, his time spent at Goldsmiths College, and his rise to fame in the 1990s. Featuring previously unseen footage taken from Hirst's personal archives.
