The Comet Line was the best the Resistance had to offer: if you established your identity (one RAF veteran here recalls being accepted by a single vote), you were sent over the Pyrenees to Gibraltar. Along the way, ordinary French and Belgians fought their own brave wars from home, risking their lives by giving strangers shelter.
