Review

Kirstie and Stuart seem like any other young, engaged couple preparing for their wedding. But Kirstie (above right) has cystic fibrosis, and only a 16 per cent lung capacity, and has been told she has six months to live if she doesn’t get a lung transplant first. But this feisty former pole-dancing teacher isn’t going down without a fight.

As you watch her wheeze her way from her front door to get into a car, worry whether she’ll make it to the wedding from her hospital bed or endure Stuart’s agony as he waits to see whether donor lungs are going to be suitable, the film becomes increasingly tense. But there’s still humour to be found: “I’m so deflating your tyres and taking you home,” says Stuart in a shop as Kirstie nags him from her wheelchair about his wedding shoes.

Summary

Documentary examining the life of 21-year-old cystic-fibrosis sufferer Kirstie Tancock, who was put on a transplant waiting list in March 2011 after being told her end-stage lung disease could result in death within six months. The programme follows her as she plans her wedding while coping with constant pain and a reliance on endless medications and an oxygen machine.
