At the start of season 13, Elliott is on leave following the shooting that closed the previous series and Olivia is finding it hard to focus on her work. But the squad – complete with eager newcomer Amanda Rollins – is given fresh impetus when an African immigrant accuses an Italian diplomat of rape.
It’s a case obviously inspired by the Dominique Strauss-Kahn affair and one that gives Michael Cutter (Linus Roache, having transferred across from the now-defunct original L&O) plenty to wrestle with.
An African immigrant working as a maid accuses an Italian diplomat of rape, but the man hires some heavyweight lawyers to discredit her story by revealing a fabricated detail on her asylum application. A fellow maid brings the woman into further disrepute, but Benson is still inclined to believe the story. Meanwhile, Stabler's future remains in doubt. Crime drama, starring Mariska Hargitay.
