You have to wonder how it’s possible for a seaside hotel to be fully booked pretty well every night of the week and yet still leave its owners with a £600,000 debt. Nick and Sue own a “stack ’em high, sell ’em cheap” budget hotel in Bournemouth favoured mainly by hen and stag parties. But it’s losing money.
For once, neutralising the decor or updating the en suites isn’t going to help. If they’re not to raise their rates, they need advice on how to make savings and where to generate a bit more profit. But while Sue embraces every suggestion that Alex Polizzi makes, pig-headed Nick simply refuses to make changes.
Alex Polizzi helps a couple in Bournemouth whose hotel near the beach is struggling to break even. Although it frequently reaches full capacity - with 57 beds in 21 rooms - the pair cannot seem to turn a profit, so the expert hotelier advises them to strip back their facilities and begin charging for extra amenities. She also suggests they build on the success of their army-style boot camp by offering other self-improvement courses to their guests.
