Dallas Campbell visits scientists around the world who have researched different aspects of Dr Frank Drake's equation. Formulated in the 1960s, it was intended to determine where to point one of the radio telescopes at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Virginia in a bid to detect extraterrestrial life. Despite the calculation of a possible 50,000 civilisations being able to communicate across the galaxy, no signals were received - but the project focused on other questions about the universe.
