Summary

Melvyn Bragg explores the restructuring of the railways in the 1960s following the recommendations of Richard Beeching, resulting in the closure of more than 2,000 stations and 4,000 miles of track and the loss of 67,000 jobs. Susan Hawkes sees film of her uncle for the first time in 20 years, signalman Michael Gatenby watches his younger self on screen and music mogul Pete Waterman reminisces about train travel in the period.
