It’s hard to convey just how cluttered Vasoulla’s home is. Within her terraced house, every room is piled high with books, clothes, toys, ornaments, furniture, cables, suitcases, saucepans – all in teetering heaps. Even the bath is filled with a jumble of cloth and what looks like an old radiator. Vasoulla’s TV presenter daughter Jasmine (presenter of C4’s A Place in the Sun) is philosophical: “All through my life I’ve felt that my mum’s stuff was more important than me,” she tells us. “I tried to make her choose and she couldn’t...”

In this film, Jasmine tries gently to help her mother tackle what is clearly a long-standing mental health problem – for which, it seems, there are no easy solutions. Jasmine’s patience in the face of her mother’s obsession is touching – until a confrontation over a box of old Barbie dolls nearly does for them both.

A Place in the Sun presenter Jasmine Harman embarks on a personal journey to help her mother Vasoulla overcome her extreme hoarding habit. Over the course of 30 years, the family's five-bedroom London home has become filled from floor to ceiling with clutter, forcing Jasmine's 12-year-old brother Cameron to move out. Debate still rages over whether hoarding should be classified as a mental illness, and Jasmine meets the families of other sufferers to learn how they deal with the problem. Narrated by Rupert Houseman.
