S1-E3 Helping Hand

S1-E3 Helping Hand

Some 430,000 UK viewers watched the opening episode of this medical/crime drama. That’s a huge number for a non-freeview channel. Maybe it’s the Dana Delany/Desperate Housewives effect.

The popular actress joins the swelling TV stable of multi-tasking pathologists as Megan Hunt, cool of manner and glossy of hair. The best bits involve Hunt wafting into the crime scene in her high heels and cinched-waist jacket, then clocking all the salient details while “clever person at work” music percolates over the soundtrack.

It’s a smooth, unchallenging watch. Delany is effortlessly likeable as Hunt and, while her cohorts are sketchily drawn, they do show promise.

Megan conducts an autopsy on a woman found murdered in a motel room and is shocked to discover the victim was one of her former patients. However, she is also surprised to discover the impact she had on the dead woman's life - and begins to wonder if she should take more of an interest in the lives of those around her. Crime drama, starring Dana Delany as a former neurosurgeon working as a coroner.
