Documentary about the real-life inspirations behind some of Hollywood's greatest movies. This programme looks at how author Thomas Harris - who wrote the novel on which the 1991 movie is based - spent time with the FBI's pioneering Behavioural Science Unit, questioning criminal profilers and immersing himself in the case files of serial killers. As a result, he came up with one of the most memorable villains of recent times, Dr Hannibal Lecter, said to be based on such real-life murderers as Ted Bundy and Ed Gein.
