There’s a story in Gwyneth Paltrow’s family that they come from a long line of rabbis, so as the film star gently digs about in her family’s roots she’s hoping to find something or someone spiritual there. She does eventually, but not before she uncovers a tragedy buried in the past. She always knew that her much-loved paternal grandfather had a difficult childhood because his mother Ida, as Paltrow puts it, was ambivalent. But it’s the words written by one of her Jewish ancestors to his father that almost make Gwyneth weep.
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow traces her ancestry in the American version of the genealogy show. She researches her mother Blythe Danner's Pennsylvania-Dutch roots, and her father Bruce Paltrow's eastern European Jewish lineage, but has difficulty establishing which family stories are based on facts.
