Review

Chances are that you’re reading this before the first episode even aired, which makes this a tricky one to write. As you’ll fast discover, Kat and Alfie: Redwater is a show that pivots on its cliffhangers, which means I have to skirt around those opening storyline shocks, so as not to ruin anyone’s enjoyment.

What I can say is that episode two features a funeral and a wake (which Kat decides to attend, despite Alfie’s protestations), while Roisin’s (Maria Doyle Kennedy) estranged sister Eileen (Angeline Ball) returns from the States following a 20-year absence. Yes, it’s a mini-reunion of cast members from The Commitments! And in the midst of all this, the Moons are left frantic when young Tommy goes missing. Ooh, I wish I could say more, but believe me, those surprises certainly keep coming.

Summary

As the villagers struggle to come to terms with the death of one of their own, Lance's daughter Eileen returns from the US after more than 20 years - although Roisin is less than keen to catch up with her estranged sister. At the holiday cottage, Alfie tries to persuade Kathleen not to go to the wake, but she goes along regardless. Will her meddling lead to confirmation that Andrew is her son or will she put her position in the village in jeopardy? Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie star, with Commitments actresses Maria Doyle Kennedy and Angeline Ball as the feuding sisters.
