The writers may enjoy forging ahead with new developments, such as the group’s first baby, but it’s always a joy when they return to long-standing issues. This week sees not only Sheldon tackling his weakness at reading emotional cues (he tests a device that does it for him), but also Raj’s continual failure in relationships.
The latter thread gives cameos to exes Emily, Claire, Lucy and even the other Emily (from 2011), as Raj quizzes all of them in a cringe-packed therapy session as to what went wrong. Less funny are the slanging matches between Penny and Leonard, but you can always rely on Sheldon to negate any discomfort with a bludgeoningly honest one-liner.
Sheldon learns of a machine that will help him understand human emotions. Penny tries to help her brother get a job, and Raj asks his ex-girlfriends why he is still single.
