Whether it’s by adding a dollop of double cream to enrich a celeriac soup or a good glug of wine to her “ultimate” slow-cooked bolognese sauce, Mary Berry likes to make food hearty, wholesome and – yes, it’s that word again - scrumptious.

She may even pull off what used to be called the Delia effect when she uses pomegranate molasses in the dressing for her colourful quinoa salad. Will the treacly-rich syrup start to fly off the supermarket shelves?

Also on her menu today is a fruit salad – but using big chunks of fruit rather than the unrecognisable “itsy-bitsy cubes” in the tinned version she remembers from her childhood.
