Mystery of the Himalayan Mummies

Mystery of the Himalayan Mummies

The Himalayas aren’t famed for being the most hospitable of landscapes, so the fact that early humans settled there has puzzled anthropologists, archaeologists and historians for years. In this intriguing documentary, a team of scientists heads to the mountains to examine ancient bones and artefacts, and find out why humans ended up there – and how they adapted to survive.

It’s thankfully sparse on overelaborate graphics and dramatisation, and is certainly engaging, but as is often the case, the most fascinating moments are when the team meets modern Himalayan people, and we’re given a glimpse into their way of life.

Documentary about human remains and artefacts found in the Himalayas, some dating back to 2800BC and revealing evidence of early death rituals to ward off the supernatural.
