Death in Paradise

Death in Paradise

Series 6 - Episode 7

Review

The world of Death in Paradise is swerving around a corner, tilting giddily on its springs. Look away now if you haven’t seen last week’s episode yet, but we gathered by the end that Humphrey was choosing a life in London with his beloved Martha, while deceptively bumbling DI Jack Mooney (Ardal O’Hanlon) was joining the gang on Saint Marie. After four years that have seen the series go from strength to ratings-busting strength, Kris Marshall has bowed out.

There won’t be the fuss made of this that there would be about, say, a new Doctor Who, but it’s a big deal – and O’Hanlon has big shoes to fill. In the London two-parter, he looked almost overawed by the task; now, in the tropical setting of that idyllic wooden beach house, he looks at home, as Florence and the others seek his help on a cold case where the wrong woman was sent to prison – and died there.

Summary

Another mystery for the cops on the Caribbean island of Saint Marie, where the sun shines all day and it seems half the residents are killers-in-waiting. However, it's all change for the team. Last week they waved goodbye to Humphrey Goodman. No one knows how Kris Marshall's character is bowing out of the show - will he walk off into the sunset with new love Martha, or will he meet a sticky end, like his predecessor Richard Poole (Ben Miller)? What we do know is that in his place is Ardal O'Hanlon as DI Jack Mooney, who first popped up in the two-part London special. His first Caribbean case sees the reopening of a seven-year-old murder when a tourist provides an alibi for the woman convicted of the crime.
